sorta introduction

I’ve had a lot of adventures, written about a ton of it, and am planning on writing even more.

I’ve spent a lot of time writing about running over the years and unfortunately a lot of it has buried in long lost archives that are no longer available to share. I have three quarters of it, but it is scattered and disconnected and stuffed into files and documents and database backups.

I started this blog with the intention of not only writing a little bit more each day and bootstrapping my memories and my current running adventures, but too digging through all those old archives all with the intention of piecing together a brand new site full of short essays about this sport I have now spent two decades chasing.

This is my first week of posts so I figured I may as well start with an introduction.

My name is Brad. I’ve been running seriously for about two decades now.

I’m not fast, but I’ve lost count of my race finishes.

I’ve run summer heat, and brutal winter cold.

I run my home here in Canada, but I’ve logged mileage in the States, Europe, Iceland, and Japan, even racing in many of those other countries.

I’ve run everything from New York & Chicago World Majors marathons to quiet trail runs through the river valley trails in my home city of Edmonton, Alberta.

I’ve had a lot of adventures, written about a ton of it, and am planning on writing even more.

My plan: one short essay or recovered running post, every weekday. Thanks for being here to help me take the first steps.

Canadian
I write this blog from a small city in the middle of the Canadian prairies. It means I use terms like kilometres and celsius and you're just gonna need to deal with that. I run four seasons long, from blisteringly hot summers through icy cold winters. I've encountered moose, beavers, and snakes on our trails. And we're proud of it all.
race
You train and train and train some more, and then for no clear reason you pay a bunch of money to run as fast as you possibly can at a very specific time with a bunch of strangers along a course lined with more strangers (or along paths lined with trees if you are an ultra runner) at the end of which you are handed a medal and a banana and a sense of achievement unlike anything you will feel again (until you sign up for your next one.)

Brad The Runner

Brad has been running recreationally since late 2007, completing five marathons, dozens of half marathons, and countless shorter races. He has been writing about his experiences on the trails for nearly as long as he has been running.
