I won’t poke my head in here and get too meta about the blog any more than I need to, but seeing as we just waltzed into our third month together on this little writing (and sharing) project, I figured I’d make an exception.
It’s October as this post is written and goes live, and if you’re reading this then you may be interested to know that there are over forty other posts that have appeared on this site since I began writing about running again on August first.
It takes a bit of work and planning to get a site like this off the ground, and then a kind of dedicated day after day grind of effort to keep it stocked with content. I suppose it’s a bit like running that way: if I were to walk away from either for more than a week, I’d probably be in a bit of pain, either physical or mental.
Since this a bit of a state of the blog post, I’ll note a few new features.
First, I’ve been adding a lot of extra bits and bobs around the site that reward exploration and paying attention and clicking stuff. I’m not going to get into technical details, but if you’re curious you might notice them. You might even appreciate them.
Second, I wanted to point out that all the words and all the pictures you see on this site are mine. I know a lot of people borrow stuff from other websites or (gasp) use generative AI to make words appear magically these days. But I thought it worth pointing out that all of the stuff on this site is human creative work. You might know how important that is to me, if you also knew that I write two other regular blogs, one about creative work and the other about algorithms and AI. It’s kinda my thing. But don’t worry, I tend to bring up running on those blogs occasionally, so it all evens out me mentioning them here.
And third, speaking of those other blogs, both of which have been around longer than this one, I am trying out something new over there and have built a tool to make and sell ebook anthology versions of my writing. It might be something I connect up to here when I get enough posts worth compiling into a similar collection—forty-ish is a little weaksauce, after all—but if you are into reading little indie essays on random tech and creative topics (or you just want to support the blogs) I now have a storefront where that all lives. Maybe in a couple months I’ll put a running collection up, too.
Either way. Here we go into the third month. Lace up.
Thanks for reading, and see you on the trails.
Definitions
- august
- In the month of August where I live summer peaks and the days are often relatively hot (in the high 20s or low 30s) muggy, smokey and dry. Rain is infrequent, but when it arrives it comes in the form of drenching downpours and epic thunderstorms. We begin our runs earlier in the day because the local marathon runs late in the month and our training distances are maxing.
- october
- Fully into autumn, October is a month of shifting seasons, short days, long shadows, and gorgeous sunsets. The cobwebs are hung on the eaves in preparation for halloween, and here in Canada we're running off Thanksgiving dinner for a couple weeks after a proper good meal mid-month.
